Beauty and the Beast Cupcakes

If you can trace, then you can make these Beauty and the Beast styled cupcakes. Trust me, they look much more impressive than they actually are! It’s definitely tedious, but if you have the patience, you’ll achieve some extraordinary looking cupcakes!

Instructions
  1. Evenly roll out fondant and cut out 2.5 inch size circles. Leave them on parchment paper or wax paper lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar to dry over night (or for at least 2 hours). Keep a some scrap pieces for practice on the next few steps
  2. Cut out the rose templates and tracing paper into roughly 2.5in sheets (this makes it easier to match up with the fondant). Place a piece of tracing paper carbon side down with a rose template art side upĀ on the fondant. Use a sharp pencil or mechanical pencil to lightly trace the rose. Feel free to include or disregard as much detail as you feel comfortable with.
  3. Attach the no. 2 tip to the icing tube or squeeze the contents into a frosting bag. I prefer the bag because I feel more in control. Trace the carbon rose pattern. Make sure your vertices intersect so your colors don’t run when you paint it.
  4. Let dry for 2+ hours.
  5. Use paint tray palettes or small bowls to separately mix red and green food coloring with a very small amount of vodka. If you’re using gel, you’ll want more vodka than if you’re using traditional liquid food coloring. Test droplets on scrap fondant until you achieve the color you’re looking for.
  6. Use a small paint brush to drop droplets of color in between the icing sections of the rose. You should be able to get into the crevices by just moving the fondant around and having the color run. Use a new brush for each color or throughly clean between applications.
  7. With a clean, dry brush, apply the gold to the white icing outlines.
  8. Once dry, place on frosted cupcakes.
